You think I'm kidding, but I'm not...

It seriously happens every day...or at least every other day. People always think I'm Russian.

I was walking to work this morning and two guys walk by. One says, "Why good morning to you".
I smile.
As I walk past I hear him say "She must be Russian."

Seriously? I can understand thinking I look Russian...but it's the need people feel to comment on it/approach me about it all the time that gets me.

You should just start learning some conversational Russian and then you can pretend like you don't speak English. Or really, learn Swahili and see if they assume it's Russian. Fun!

Karen, I'm jealous! I would love to be mistaken for someone exotic and exciting. I encountered two VERY rich and beautiful Russians at JFK (while I was in my gym clothes)and everyone was drooling over them. You must have to carry around a mop with you to clean up after all those drooling men? :-) Alas, the most exotic I get mistaken for is Melissa Joan Hart (Saturday night) - or maybe someone was just telling me I'm a witch? :-) Hope to see you at Christmas-time!

I agree with amber. I would just find a couple of fun phrases, like "Yes, you do smell like cheese."
